Connecting subcultures is central to the graduation collection of Carmen in 2020 at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. 

Her collection, titled “Melting Pot,” draws inspiration from the diverse subcultures of Rotterdam. Through in-depth research into communities such as gabbers, multicultural youth, and football supporters, Carmen aimed to capture the essence of unity amid diversity.

“Melting Pot/Smeltkroes” symbolizes for Carmen the fusion of cultures and identities, reflecting the shared sense of belonging and interdependence. Each garment in the collection serves as evidence of the seamless harmony between diverse subcultures, celebrating their unique characteristics while promoting a sense of collective identity. With this collection, Carmen aims to emphasize the beauty of diversity and the power of inclusivity in both fashion and society.
